MileOneCares Educates Teens on how to Steer Clear of Districted Driving

Distractions are everywhere on the road — and for new drivers, staying focused can be especially challenging. That’s why we’ve teamed up with DRIVE SMART to bring impactful, hands-on safety education directly to students who are just beginning their driving journey.

Throughout October, we visited schools and fire departments across the Hampton Roads and Baltimore communities, where teens took part in engaging, real-world learning experiences. These included a virtual reality texting and driving simulator, an impaired driving cart course, and a mock traffic stop demonstration — all designed to drive home the real risks of distracted and impaired driving.

At the end of each session, students are invited to take the Buckle Up, Phone Down pledge — a commitment to safer habits behind the wheel and a step toward making our roads safer for everyone.

We’re excited to continue this important program into 2026, reaching even more local teens with the tools and knowledge they need to make safe choices behind the wheel.
