2024 RAM 1500

Overview
You’ll have no trouble recognizing the latest version of the light-duty full-sized RAM 1500, with a lot of oomph beneath that iconic raised hood. RAM hasn’t made any substantive changes since the RAM’s last remodel in 2019. It’s still available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and comes in a wealth of trims (eight), with a dizzying array of configurations (33), depending on which packages you choose. The RAM offers three engine choices, two transmission choices (8-speed and 6-speed automatic), two cab sizes (crew and quad), two bed sizes (5’7” and 6’4”), and all sorts of bells and whistles. RAM knows their fan base.
Who’s It For?
The driver who likes a muscular truck, with lots of power, towing, and hauling capacity, but expects creature comforts whether hauling an RV, loading a ton of hay, or venturing onto the road less traveled. RAM fans expect a lot of room, inside and out. Not surprisingly, the 2024 RAM 1500 can serve as both workhorse and commuter, both rugged rock climber and smooth highway navigator, with the kids and the dog comfortable in the back seat.

Real World Performance
When it comes to ride quality, RAM has led the competition. It was the first of the big three US truck makers to scrap leaf springs and install air suspension on a full-sized pickup. Other technological advances allow the 2024 RAM 1500 to adapt to road conditions, in more ways than offering 4WD and alternate driving modes. In addition to an active air dam, which automatically extends several inches downward to reduce drag at speeds above 30 mph, the RAM 1500 has another trick when approaching highway speeds. Its air suspension system actually lowers the entire truck to improve mileage and reduce drag (resulting in a respectable drag coefficient of .357). Performance is further enhanced by lessons learned from manufacturing hybrid vehicles – The “eTorque Mild Hybrid Technology System” actually improves driving efficiency and smoothness, while also boosting torque when needed.
None of this means the RAM 1500 has lost its off-roading muscles. When approaching rutted, rocky terrain, the driver can raise the suspension system a full inch. Meanwhile, the SelecSpeed Control system will minimize jarring from rough roads—automatically applying torque and brake pressure to allow for a consistent speed, enabling the driver to focus on steering challenges in hairy conditions.
