All-New 2018 Jeep® Wrangler: What to Expect

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a new Wrangler, so expectations are high for the next-generation 2018 model. Fans of the original will want it to remain unchanged. On the other hand, new regulations might call for adjustments. It’s clear that Jeep® is working diligently to make everyone happy. Here’s what we know so far.

Exterior tweaks

Based on the latest spy shots, it’s safe to say that the iconic design of the Wrangler (as seen here on the 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock edition) will not change very much at all. Look for the tall grille with vertical slots to remain. The round headlights and flared fenders aren’t going anywhere. However, changes in the turn signal location headlights are expected.

Lighter materials

According to reports, the hood and doors will utilize lightweight aluminum in order to remove some weight from the Wrangler. A series of individual panels that can be stored in the vehicle will likely replace the removable top. That means taking the top down is easier than ever.

Turbocharged four-cylinder

Get ready for the Wrangler to offer a four-cylinder turbo. Dubbed the Hurricane, the new engine is a direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder expected to produce approximately 300 horsepower. It’ll be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Downsizing is necessary in order to meet new fuel economy and emissions regulations. Expect the standard engine to be a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, found on the current model. The 2018 Wrangler goes into production in November. Look for it in our showroom at Heritage CDJR Harrisburg, Owings Mills & Parkville soon after that.
