New for 2017

Changes for 2017 include new LED headlights and fog lights as well as an available cold weather package that adds features like heated seats, remote start, and an engine block heater.

America's Off-Road Icon

The 2017 Jeep® Wrangler carries on the tradition started by the original World War II Jeeps. It combines a distinctive design with genuine off-road capability, making for a package that any true car fan will love. The Wrangler is still one of the best options for drivers that regularly venture beyond paved roads.

Performance

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler retains unparalleled off-road capability. It’s as focused on driving over rough terrain as sports cars are focused on track driving. That makes the Wrangler a rarity at a time when most SUVs emphasize on-road manners at the expense of go-anywhere ruggedness.

All 2017 Wrangler models use the 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 that can be found in numerous other Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) products. In the Wrangler, this engine is tuned to produce 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to all four wheels. Jeep offers both six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions.

While other versions of the Pentastar® V6 are tuned for high-speed performance, Jeep emphasized an overall broad torque band with a specific focus on low-end torque. This allows the Wrangler to crawl along at low engine speeds without the need to constantly goose the throttle and risk losing traction. The Wrangler can also tow up to 2,000 pounds, and gets an EPA-rated 18 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 21 mpg highway)* with either transmission.

What really sets the Wrangler apart from other SUVs is its off-road-ready drivetrain hardware. All models use a traditional four-wheel drive system with low range. The Rubicon model also features electric locking front and rear differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, and 32-inch tires. The Wrangler also boasts an approach angle of 42.2 degrees, breakover angle of 25.8 degrees, and departure angle of 32.3 degrees.

Features

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler is a two-door, five-seat SUV, but if the standard Wrangler doesn’t have enough space, Jeep also offers the Wrangler Unlimited four-door model. The Wrangler is available in four trim levels, priced starting from $23,995.**

The base Wrangler Sport comes with standard features like a rear 60/40 split-folding bench seat, tilt steering column, audio input jack for mobile devices, and Sunrider® soft top. The Sport S builds on that, adding features like an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped shift knob, and power windows and door locks.

The Wrangler Sahara incorporates the applicable standard features from the Sport and Sport S and adds features like a 115-volt auxiliary power outlet, bright interior accents, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and SiriusXM® satellite radio. The Rubicon model includes the more extensive suite of off-road equipment described above as well as model-specific styling elements.

Optional features on the 2017 Wrangler include leather seats, heated front seats, a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, remote USB port, 40-gigabyte hard drive, Alpine® 9-speaker premium audio system, navigation, remote USB port, and a cold weather package.

Design

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler has a distinctive look with features that advertise its connection to the original World War II Jeeps.

The round headlights, seven-slot grille, and trapezoidal wheel flares all point straight to those original Jeeps. But even iconic designs need an update once in awhile. So for 2017, the Wrangler gets optional LED headlights and fog lights for a more modern look.

Aside from the actual styling features, the Wrangler offers a body configuration unlike pretty much every other vehicle on sale. It’s a convertible SUV, after all, and the top isn’t even the only thing you can remove. The doors come off as well, and the windshield folds. Jeep also offers two convertible tops: a conventional Sunride folding soft top, and a Freedom Top™ hard top with removable panels.

With the doors and top removed, the Wrangler defines the term “open-air motoring.” With everything in place, the interior still feels spacious thanks to the upright windshield, tall roof, and nearly vertical dashboard. An infotainment system with 6.5-inch touchscreen display is also available for tech fans.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2017 Jeep Wrangler includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, electronic roll mitigation, and advanced multistage front airbags. Supplemental front seat-mounted side airbags are optional.

Verdict

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler remains an iconic design with unparalleled off-road ability. It’s the vehicle you need if you want to go anywhere.
