2017 Chrysler Pacifica Named Top Safety Pick+

Style, comfort, utility – all of these make for a compelling minivan. But when it comes to selecting which one is right for you and your family, the most important trait to consider is safety.

That’s why Heritage CDJR Harrisburg, Owings Mills & Parkville is so impressed by the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. Not only does the Pacifica provide stellar value and comfort, but it also benefits from more than 100 available safety and security features.

Perhaps that’s why the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica earned a rating of Top Safety Pick+ for 2016 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).*

Technology that helps avoid collisions

While the all-new Pacifica achieves top scores for crashworthiness, the best safety features are those that help drivers avoid collisions. The Chrysler Pacifica’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system earned a rating of “superior,” the highest possible grade that IIHS awards for this technology.

The Pacifica’s system is called Forward Collision Warning-Plus. It features sensor-fusion technology, which combines the very best attributes of radar sensors and cameras for greater precision. The system only responds when camera and radar agree that a frontal impact appears imminent.

To ensure the driver is alert to potential harm, the system response comprises audible and visual driver warnings and/or AEB. No other minivan features sensor-fusion technology; competitive systems employ either cameras or radar sensors – not both, which gives the Chrysler Pacifica a clear advantage over its competitors. More importantly, it’s just another way in which Chrysler is determined to keep you and those that you love protected from the dangers of the road.

Sensor fusion, once reserved for luxury-segment vehicles, is the technology of choice at FCA US, says Mike Dahl, Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance.

“As AEB capability proliferates across our vehicle lineup, we are committed to using sensor-fusion technology,” Dahl says. “It is a significant stepping stone in our exploration of autonomous-vehicle development, the next horizon for occupant safety.”

Sophisticated strength

While advanced technology is crucial to the Pacifica’s outstanding safety rating, material choice – such as press-hardened steel and Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) – are also key contributors. In fact, high-strength steel accounts for 72 percent of its body structure, 38 percent of which is AHSS.

Heritage CDJR Harrisburg, Owings Mills & Parkville knows that overall safety and crashworthiness are important factors to consider when selecting the minivan that’s right for you, which is why we are very proud to offer the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica.
