Redefining the American sedan

While there are many midsize family sedans to choose from, the 2017 Chrysler 200 offers a welcome mix of style and elegance. And depending on whether you crave power, efficiency, or a mixture of both, the 200 is available with a number of engine options to satisfy your needs.

Performance

Drivers have two different engine options when choosing the 2017 Chrysler 200. The first consists of a 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® II four-cylinder that comes standard and creates 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. The second engine option is a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine that churns out 295 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque.

For maximum efficiency, Chrysler has chosen a smooth-shifting, nine-speed transmission for both engines. And while front-wheel drive is standard across all models, drivers have the option of adding an active all-wheel-drive system for enhanced handling and performance.

Speaking of efficiency, filling your tank is no longer a frequent chore in the 2017 Chrysler 200. That’s because the 200 boasts stellar fuel economy, returning an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined (23 city/36 highway) when paired with front-wheel drive and the 2.4-liter engine.* All-wheel drive fans needn't worry, though, as fuel economy remains a respectable 22 combined (18 city/29 highway) even when paired with the 3.6-liter V6.*

Features

The 2017 Chrysler 200 starts at $22,115** and is a five-passenger mid-size sedan that’s available in no less than six trim levels: LX, Touring, Limited Platinum, 200S, 200S Alloy Edition, and 200C Platinum.

While it’s true each subsequent model trim offers more amenities than the previous trim, the entry-level LX is still handsomely equipped with virtually everything you’ll need from the get-go. Standard equipment includes keyless ignition and entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and 17-inch steel wheels. A 60/40-split folding rear seat adds to the car’s cargo capacity, while a four-speaker sound system with USB/iPod® integration rounds out its audio offerings.

For tech lovers, the LX can be had with the available Uconnect® package that provides Bluetooth® audio streaming and a five-inch touchscreen display.

If it's added refinement you’re after, the 200 Touring comes equipped with all the LX's applicable equipment but adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Uconnect® 5.0.

The 200 Limited Platinum benefits from LED running lights, different exterior and interior trim, a rearview camera, and power-adjustable heated front seats. This trim also gets leather upholstery, a six-speaker audio system, and an upgraded Uconnect® 8.4 system that features a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen, which boasts improved functionality.

The 200S adds 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, heated mirrors, foglights, power-adjustable heated front sport seats, cloth/leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and satellite radio, while the 200S Alloy Edition adds a special dark bronze exterior trim and 19-inch wheels.

The 200C Platinum is the most feature-rich 200 available. It offers a number of content upgrades as well as various items found in the 200’s available premium content packages.

Design

Sharply dressed and ready to impress, the 2017 Chrysler 200 boasts an attractive design thanks to a coupe-like profile and sleek lines. From its floating Chrysler badge to its projector-beam headlights, the 200's look is fresh, focused, and truly something special.

There is no denying that Chrysler took great pride in crafting a car that looks amazing on the outside, and we're happy to report that same effort was made to ensure the 200's interior is equally impressive.

Step inside and you'll find a thoroughly modern cabin that truly transcends its modest price point. Materials are soft to touch and look upscale, while opting for the S and C models (equipped with the available 8.4-inch Uconnect® infotainment system) will only heighten that premium feeling. Other flourishes like available real-wood inlays and rotary dial are easy on the eyes, too, and it’s hard not to admire the smart floating gauges and center display.

But it’s not all about style. The 2017 Chrysler 200 proves it has the substance to match class rivals both in terms of comfort and utility. If you need proof, simply take a look at the model's 16-cubic-foot trunk capacity, a number which should make ferrying everything from groceries to luggage a snap.

Safety

Who says style and safety can't go hand in hand? They certainly do in the 2017 Chrysler 200, which delivers standard anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver and front-passenger knee airbags. Worried about objects that may lurk behind you? A rearview camera is available on the LX and standard on other trims.

Still, if it’s more advanced safety tech you seek, consider exploring the 200’s optional blind spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warning and keeping assist, and a forward collision warning system that automatically initiates braking in the event of an imminent collision.

Verdict

With the 2017 200, Chrysler has delivered a class-defining car that proudly places the brand’s banner atop its athletic shoulders and encourages others to come along for the ride.
