New for 2016

Despite receiving a complete redesign last year, the 2016 Chrysler 200 gets a host of improvements, including firmer front seats, a new 90th Anniversary package, and an available rearview camera on Limited models.

Redesigned to Redefine

Are you behind the wheel of a European luxury vehicle? One test drive in the 2016 Chrysler 200 and you'd be forgiven for thinking so. While there are many midsize family sedans to choose from, the 2016 Chrysler 200 offers a welcome mix of style and elegance. And depending on whether you crave power, efficiency, or a mixture of both, the 200 is available with a number of engine options to satisfy your needs.

Performance

The 2016 Chrysler 200 is available with two different engine options. The first consists of a 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® II four-cylinder that comes standard and creates 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. The second engine option is a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine that churns out 295 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque.

For maximum efficiency, Chrysler has chosen a smooth-shifting, nine-speed transmission for both engines. And while front-wheel drive is standard across all models, drivers have the option of adding an active all-wheel-drive system for enhanced handling and performance.

Speaking of efficiency, filling your tank is no longer a frequent chore in the 2016 Chrysler 200.  That’s because the 200 boasts stellar fuel economy, returning an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined (23 city/36 highway) when paired with front-wheel drive and 2.4-liter engine.* All-wheel drive fans need not worry though, as fuel economy remains a respectable 22 combined (18 city/29 highway) even when paired with the 3.6-liter V6.*

Features

The 2016 Chrysler 200 starts at $21,995** and is a five-passenger mid-size sedan that’s available in four trim levels: LX, Limited, S, and C.

While it’s true each subsequent model trim offers more amenities than the previous trim, the entry-level LX is handsomely equipped with virtually everything you’ll need from the get go. Standard equipment includes keyless ignition and entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and 17-inch steel wheels. A 60/40-split folding rear seat adds to the car’s cargo capacity, while a four-speaker sound system with USB/iPod® integration rounds out its audio offerings. For tech lovers, there is an available Uconnect® package that provides Bluetooth® audio streaming and a five-inch touchscreen display.

If it's added refinement you’re after, the 200 Limited comes equipped with all of the above standard features, as well as upgraded alloy wheels and unique exterior flourishes, along with an enhanced six-speaker audio system for a more robust listening experience. Limited drivers also get access to Chrysler’s Comfort and Convenience Group packages, which add everything from heated front seats to a rearview camera. For 2016, the Limited trim is now available with a rearview camera.

Also new for 2016 is a 90th Anniversary Edition option package. It bundles the contents of the Convenience Group with special floor mats, a sunroof, and Uconnect® with 8.4.-inch touchscreen. The 90th Anniversary Edition option package is only available with the Limited model.

As its name suggests, the S trim is the sportiest 200. It comes with heated mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and satellite radio. Of course, what would a sport model be without larger wheels? Thankfully, that question is answered for you with upgraded 18-inch alloys thrown into the mix along with a standard sport-tuned suspension, instilling even more dynamism to the 200’s thrilling road capabilities.

Not to be outdone, The S model comes with its own hoard of options ranging from an upgraded instrument panel that adds the same 8.4-inch touchscreen display found in the 90th Anniversary Edition option package, navigation system, and hands-free voice texting capability for compatible smartphones, to an upgraded nine-speaker audio system and auto-dimming rearview mirror. Drivers wishing to kit out their S model can also choose from 19-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot warning system, and full leather upholstery.

Last, but certainly not least, the top-of-the-line 200 C includes all of the S trim’s standard features (minus the sport-tuned suspension) while making leather upholstery and a six-way power front seat standard. The C also gets access to an expansive SafetyTec™ Safety & Security Technology Package that bundles adaptive cruise control, a frontal collision warning system, and a lane departure/keeping assist system, to name a few.

Design

Sharply dressed and ready to impress, the 2016 Chrysler 200 retains last year's attractive design thanks to a coupe-like profile and sleek lines. From its floating Chrysler badge to its projector-beam headlights, the 200's look is fresh, focused, and truly something special.

There is no denying that Chrysler took great pride in penning a car that looks amazing on the outside, and we're happy to report that same effort was made to ensure the 200's interior was equally impressive.

Step inside and you'll find a thoroughly modern cabin that truly transcends its modest price point. Materials are soft to touch and look upscale. Opting for the S and C models equipped with the available 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system only heightens that premium feel. Other flourishes like available real-wood inlays and rotary dial are easy on the eyes, too, and it’s hard not to admire the smart floating gauges and center display.

For 2016, Chrysler has added padding to the seats, allowing for a firmer, more comfortable experience.

But it’s not all about style, as the 2016 Chrysler 200 proves it has the substance to match class rivals both in terms of comfort and utility. Need proof? How about a 16 cubic-foot trunk capacity, which should make ferrying everything from groceries to luggage a snap.

Safety

Style and safety? Surely you can’t have it all? Well you can, actually, and the 2016 Chrysler 200 is here to deliver with standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and driver and front-passenger knee airbags. Worried about objects that may lurk behind you? An optional rearview camera is on hand to help keep you and those around you safe.

Still, if it’s more advanced safety tech you seek, consider exploring the 200’s optional blind spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warning and keeping assist, and forward collision warning system that automatically initiates braking in the event of an imminent collision.

Bottom line

With the 2016 200, Chrysler has delivered a class-defining car that proudly places the brand’s banner atop its athletic shoulders and encourages others to come along for the ride.
